Alternatives to Emotional Eating
We all have our own ways to manage stress and there are a lot of people who just indulge themselves in emotional eating because of certain psychological reasons. Stress is just one reason but emotional eating may also be due to frustrations, sadness and depression.
Others think that emotional eating is a better way to manage these problems instead of taking drugs, sleeping pills or spending so much on leisure activities. However, getting stressed makes our bodies produce more cortisol, a stress hormone that makes us crave for sweet and salty foods that tempts us to eat unhealthy foods. With this, emotional eating is still not the best way to manage stress because it could lead to different infections caused by the food we eat.
So if you are among those people who manage stress by eating, start finding new ways to manage your problems. There is actually a lot of healthier ways to do it, both good for your psychological and physical health.
Don’t bury yourself with the stress and problems you have. Exercise makes your body active that makes you relieve stress. Try going to the gym to do some work-out to ease all the stress you got from the whole day of tiring work. Go out with your friends or spend quality time with your family. Talk to them and tell them how you feel. You can also keep a diary where you can express whatever you want. This is also a good way to keep yourself away from being engaged to emotional eating.
